OMBUDS DAY CELEBRATION
Every second Thursday of October people from around the world take time to celebrate Ombuds. The Office of the Ombudsman (OoO) Lesotho celebrated the International Ombuds Day on Thursday, 10th October 2024, themed ‘We are here to hear you! Ombuds Day serves as an additional opportunity to educate and raise awareness among the public about the history and practices of the Ombuds profession including the roles they play, the services they offer, and the value provided.
The OoO Lesotho commemorated International Ombuds day with Metolong communities at Metolong Primary School, who were affected by the LHDA Phase 1B infrastructure dam developments. As one of the OoO’s broad mandate areas, the OoO protects the public and communities against environmental degradation and support efforts in the preservation of the environment. The Ombuds staff planted 500 trees in the area and could not have done this without the support of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Counsellors, Chiefs and the broader Metolong communities! The day was wrapped with entertainment, competition and games. So glad we brought smiles and hope to them all. We are stronger when we work together!
